Conquering Writer’s Block

Writer’s block is a common struggle among writers. They sit down to write but no words come. What then? This post will help you overcome writer’s block if you’ve ever faced this challenge. But first let’s talk a little more about what writer’s block is.

Urban dictionary describes it as ‘A usually temporary psychological inability to begin or continue work on a piece of writing.’

We asked writers how they overcome writer’s block and what follows are their responses.

Usually I listen to music or look at some quotes and get ideas. That or I end up forgetting and turn into the jerk who doesn’t post for 4+ months…. ? there is no in between *sheepishly smiles and slinks on over to Wattpad* I-I mean 2+ months @dj8unny [insta]
It depends on what type of music I listen to. Like if I was listening to Gary Barlow and Elton John’s Face to Face: I’ll write an upbeat story and if I was listening to Paloma Faith’s Only Love Can Hurt Like This: I’ll write a tragic or.romantic book. @FlareonFireStone
I normally listen to music to calm down. Then, I’ll probably talk to one of my friends. My book is really a team effort. ?? @pink_ninja_2001
I read other books or listen to music and relax. @FaithSwitzer

I read books and write random scenes that come to mind. @crocodiletears_
I look around the area I’m in for inspiration. @otaku_brynn_chan
Listen to music, reread a favorite book, work on an old book, watch an inspirational movie, start a new book, people watch at the mall for about an hour, then try again. In that order. It almost always works. @drea313
I eat chocolate or fast food while listening to Charlie Puth ? @celebslover6

Hilary Mantel once said

“If you get stuck, get away from your desk. Take a walk, take a bath, go to sleep, make a pie, draw, listen to music, meditate, exercise; whatever you do, don’t just stick there scowling at the problem. But don’t make telephone calls or go to a party; if you do, other people’s words will pour in where your lost words should be. Open a gap for them, create a space. Be patient.”
